The faces of children in classrooms across Colorado are becoming more diverse every year. More and more immigrant children enter our classrooms speaking different languages and often, teachers are not sure how to reach out to their families and effectively engage them in the education process.
To address this need, the Colorado Statewide Parent Coalition published two documents. The informational booklet, Engaging Mexican Immigrant Parents in their Children's Education: A Guide for Teachers highlights the differences between the education systems in Colorado and Mexico , the cultural strengths of Mexican immigrant families and practical ways to engage them in the education process. Asegurando el Éxito Académico de Nuestros Hijos(as) also highlights the differences between the two education systems and the cultural strengths of Mexican immigrant families. It is primarily designed to help immigrant parents understand the education system in Colorado so they can become full partners in their children's education.
Many Mexican immigrants, even our most involved, do not fully understand the education system in Colorado . Many don't realize that in Colorado , effective parent involvement is one of the most significant factors impacting high student achievement.
The Colorado Statewide Parent Coalition offers a full-day Trainer of Trainers (TOT) workshop or a ˝ day informational workshop to interested schools or school districts on “ Engaging Mexican Immigrant Parents in Their Children's Education” .

The Three Step Process is an effective way for parents
to prepare their child to be ready for kindergarten. This program is designed to
1) provide parents with parenting skills, 2) equip parents with techniques to
teach their child pre-literacy and pre-writing skills, and 3) provide coaching
and mentoring to parents in the home.
Parents who have four-year olds are invited to attend
the Three-Step Process training where they go through a comprehensive training
in:
21st Century Exploring Parenting.
Constructing Academic
Success and Achievement.
Home Learning Support Program for ECE: Coaching and Mentoring.
The result is that in the fall when the four-year old
enters kindergarten at the age of five, he or she will score at grade level or
above in the district's kindergarten readiness assessment.
